How to Play Roulette

Online roulette software has advanced greatly over the years, and players don’t have to worry much when it comes to the rules. At most internet casinos, the software will guide you through the betting process, which speeds up the game a lot. But even with all of the convenient advances that have been made in roulette software, it’s still worth looking at the basics of how to play online roulette.

Every round begins with you placing a bet(s) on the board. The board is laid out just like a land-based roulette board with 37 numbers (European roulette) or 38 numbers (American roulette). Besides the numbers, some other sections on the board include:

1st 12 (numbers 1-12)
2nd 12 (numbers 13-24)
3rd 12 (numbers 25-36)
1-18 (numbers 1-18)
19-36 (numbers 19-36)
Odd (all odds numbers)
Even (all even numbers)
Red (all red spaces)
Black (all black spaces)
2 to 1 space under the first section
2 to 1 space under the second section
2 to 1 space under the third section

All of these different sections represent areas where you can place bets. For instance, if you want to bet on the first twelve numbers during a spin, you would place chips in the “1st 12” space. You can also put single number bets on any number on the board, though this wager has the lowest odds of winning. Speaking of odds, some casinos will actually give you the odds of winning different bets when you move the pointer over them. This is a very helpful feature for those unfamiliar with online roulette strategy.

Once you have chosen a bet(s) to make and have decided how much to wager, you can choose to spin the wheel. Depending on where the ball lands on the wheel, you will either win your bet, or the chips will be taken away by the house. After a spin is completed, one important thing to remember is to clear the board of your old wagers because many online casinos leave the bets there for the next spin. If you want to keep making the same bets, you can use the repeat bet option (if offered).

The main thing to keep in mind when learning how to play roulette online is the variety of bets you can make. Once you’ve got this down, you should have no trouble understanding roulette rules and how the game works.
